Chambers was probably the most famous Golden Age (1970s) adult film star among the general public. "Deep Throat" was the most famous movie, no doubt, but Linda Lovelace was not a big celebrity. (Due to being unattractive and unlikable.) "Debbie Does Dallas" was probably the second most famous title, but Bambi Woods was a fly-by-night non-star. "Behind the Green Door" (1972) was very well known and notorious, and Marilyn Chambers had star quality. She looked kind of like Cybil Shepard (who was a big star at the time) and had some success as a model, famously gracing the Ivory Snow detergent box. Chambers turned in maybe the best leading performance by a porn actress in a mainstream film, starring in David Cronenberg's RABID. She's not at all terrible in the part.
