Directed by Julien Temple (ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS) When you look back, there are films that just "have it." Often these old sleepers involve fortuitous collections of major talent just before they hit it big. (STATE OF GRACE and RIVER'S EDGE come to mind). The music is overseen by Nile Rogers (Producer and co-writer of more Madonna hits than we can name). The sound track walks a fine line between camp and alternative.
Valerie (Geena Davis) is planning to wed cheating Dr. Ted Gallagher. Her life becomes complex when a spaceship crashes in her swimming pool, and she becomes hostess to three fuzzy aliens, played by Jeff Goldblum, Damon Wayans and Jim Carey. Hairdresser friend Julie Brown transforms the trio from wookies to hotties, and are off for a night on the town.
Soon Valerie's beau's cheating become evident, and she rebounds into the arm of head alien (and real-life husband at the time) Goldblum, prompting the title line, "I hope you won't think Earth girls are easy."
Geena Davis's "Brand New Girl" musical make-over is great fun –it won't surprise anyone to know she looks good in every look they try– and Brown's "Cause I'm a Blonde" number steals the show.
