Director Torgny Wickman made a downbeat drama with a lot of sexual scenes in it; sort of an art film/sexploitation film hybrid, and not your usual sex-without-consequences romp. Baby-faced cult star Christina Lindberg plays Anita, the titular teenage nymphomaniac. Anita is not joyously horny. She is gripped by a self loathing compulsion to engage in random and degrading sex. She is called a slut by everyone she meets.

Sad Anita is taken in by a very nice, decent young man (Well known movie star Stellan Skarsgård) who helps her work through her problems. The path is neither straight nor simple. At one point she is playing with a vibrator, then smashes it in frustration and runs out to have anonymous sex with some homeless squatters living in a tent. Eventually she ends up in a live sex show before being rescued. It's a genuinely touching film.

One scene in Anita gets my vote as one of the craziest, sexiest moments in any movie. Anita and her sister are prompted to sing for the amusement of their parent's friends at a swanky cocktail party. Anita responds by doing an impromptu striptease for the great amusement of Dad's business associates. Mom and Dad just watch in horror. Lindberg's ample pubic foliage glares out through very transparent panties while her face is a mask of grim, mocking alienation. Memorable stuff.

After revealing her most intimate and violent encounters to Erik, he determines that, in order for her to overcome her nymphomania, she first must experience a “true” orgasm!
