"Stille dage i Clichy" directed by Jens Jψrgen Thorsen. 91 min (uncut version)This Danish filmed version of the Henry Miller book is a remarkable counter-culture mix of French New Wave art film, porn, and grafitti. Inventive low budget B&W film from that odd 1970-1972 period where no one knew whether smut would become a viable aspect of regular film-making or not. The soundtrack consists of dirty songs about the proceedings written and performed by Country Joe.
There's a lot of material about the 1970 Obsenity trial of this film. (see also the Criterion I AM CURIOUS YELLOW release for stories of a similar trial)
Marvelous black and white images of late-1960s Paris and a lively supporting cast including actual Parisian streetwalkers. With LOUISE WHITE, PAUL VALJEAN, WAYNE JOHN RODDA.
