When someone says "a porno version of Kentucky Fried Movie" my instincts are to run, but this Chuck Vincent directed collection of sexually explicit sketches is pretty entertaining and has at least one genuine laugh in it—the pictures accompanying the description of the gameshow prize trip to Gary, Indiana. (The game show sketch is nicely done all around.)

Most of the sketches aren't supposed to be "ha, ha" funny… they're more strangely amusing or even wry. For instance, there's a charming but melancholy sketch about how the most far-fetched, unrealistic female sexual fantasy is true love.

Cult star Rebecca Brooke appears in several sketches here. Coincidentally, the year before she appeared in the non-xxx movie that most inspired BANG, BANG--she was in the "sex olympics" sketch in the previous year's GROOVE TUBE.

Unfortunately it appears that Video X Pix didn't have much to work with in producing this disc. The sound is good but the picture is video-transfer quality at best. In fairness, this movie has not been available since forever so there might not be an extant film positive, let alone a negative.

Remember "Laugh In" on TV? Here's an explicit sex version created by Chuck Vincent that you shouldn't miss. It begins with C.J. Laing being telephoned by Jeffrey Hurst, who tells her that he is horny and is playing with himself. Soon she reaches a climax and sighs, "That was really nice, Freddie." But that isn't his name, it's a wrong number. In the next scene, Jennifer Jordan demonstrates the bulgarian blowjob and is followed by a medical advice segment for the sexually confused. Jeffrey Hurst reads from Mother Goose, with C.J. Laing playing the girl and Wade Nichols playing the wolf. A woman (Rebecca Brooke) at her psychiatrist's office talks about how she became frigid. He begins screwing her, but she pays no attention to him. It all wraps up with a show called "What The Fuck Do You Do?," in which a panel guesses Annie Sprinkle's line."

Starring Annie Sprinkle, C.J. Laing, Cynthia Gardner, Susan McBain, Jeffrey Hurst, Jennifer Jordan (Sarah Nicholson), Marlene Willoughby, Rebecca Brooke and Wade Nichols. aka Bang, aka Bang, You've Got It!

Directed by Radley Metzger (as Henry Paris) The best looking American explicit film. Extremely sexy follow-up to Misty Beethoven (including a bondage scene with Constance Money and Jamie Gillis that was filmed for Misty Beethoven but not used)

Whereas MISTY BEETHOVEN is noteworthy for it's narrative and characterization Barbara Broadcast is a string of incidents with the focus on pure visual style. There's something decadent about people having sex with their clothes on, and Metzger made an interesting choice here, focusing on fashion and genitalia… Annette Haven's breasts are never exposed in the film, though everything else certainly is. (Kind of like writing a novel without the letter "E")

"C.J. Laing plays Roberta, a hot-blooded reporter who arranges a rendezvous/interview with celebrity hooker and internationally renowned sex expert Barbara Broadcast (Annette Haven) at the Olympia Ballroom - an exclusive New York eatery where the waiters and waitresses are on the menu...

That night, at a discotheque, Annette and Roberta succumb to each other's beauty and passion, igniting the disco with their own particular dance style." Hustler: "The most professional porn film ever. Best picture of 1977"

Starring Annette Haven, Constance Money, C.J. Laing, Suzanne McBaine, and Jamie Gillis.

Directed by Don Walters, sexploitation then XXX director who went on to be one of the top 1970s adult film producers. (My favorite credit of his is that he directed the marvelously titled early porno "Sexual Freedom in Brooklyn")

Though a whiz as a producer Walters was a rather disorganized director if this film is any indication. It's all over the place! Nice NYC cast.

Leapin' lizards! It's the classic 1976 x-rated parody of Little Orphan Annie! This time, All-American do-gooder Sammy must battle the evil Hata Mari (Jennifer Welles) to keep a top secret formula from falling into the cold war enemies of the USA. Can Sammy save the day for Mom, apple pie, and the American way?

Starring Jennifer Welles, Neil Flanagan, Rocky Millstone, Andrea True, Jamie Gillis, Kim Pope, Nikki Hilton, Lynn Bishop, Jennifer Jordan, Helen Madigan, C.J. Laing
Midnight Desires (DVD)  1976

"One of the best ever! Highly recommended! Super-duper sex with dignity. This is the sex film for lovers." - Al Goldstein

High quality New York production with the better known New York porn axis stars of 1976. The New York brand of adult film was ten times more literate, well-acted and moody than its sunny, bouncy California counterpart. A group of beautiful rich people get together one night in 1938 and tell scandalous stories of bizarre sexual interludes; recollections sparked by (but seemingly unrelated to) a series of newspaper headlines like NAZIS INVADE POLAND.

Director Shaun Costello (aka Warren Evans) has annotated the IMDB entries for a lot of his films with priceless comments and recollections:

My name is Shaun Costello and I wrote and directed this movie back in 1975. This was the first film I shot in 35MM film. All my previous efforts had been shot in 16MM. I saw this film recently, along with 18 or 19 other pictures that I made in the Seventies, as part of the process of revisiting the work I did back then. Some of the films I watched were dreadful. Some were acceptable on some level, especially considering their budgets, and some were quite watchable. Midnight Desires was by far the best of this group. Because of budgetary constraints I liked working with scripts that contained vignettes tied together by a central core. Shooting to this structure was much more cost effective than a linear story line where you moved from a to b to c to d, all the way to z, each scene depending on it's preceding and following scenes in order to make sense. In Midnight Desires four well dressed adults gather around the fire place in a Long Island mansion and each one reveals a long hidden, and as yet untold sexual fantasy. Each vignette takes us to a remote location where that fantasy is dramatized. At the end of each fantasy episode we return to the mansion where the complexities of the fantasy are discussed by the participants. Four stories. Four totally different sexual fantasies. Four explanations. At dawn a limo picks up one of the couples for the drive back to Manhattan and the film comes to its end. This picture was nicely shot by Bill Markle in his first 35MM effort. The locations are tangy. The dialogue is crisp and intelligent. The actors provide acceptable performances. The music, all stolen of course, is delicious. This is a clean, nimble, tidy, watchable movie. Very good of its kind.

Starring Jamie Gillis, C.J. Laing, Vanessa Del Rio, Eric Edwards, Karen Regis, Urlsula Pasarell, Linda Lovemore, Ray Jefferies, Leonard Cooper, Bree Anthony, Arturo Millhouse, Ellen Burden & Craig Esposito.

Pajama Party (DVD) AB176  1977

First film directed by Jim Clark (Debbie Does Dallas, Good Girls of Godiva High and Young Wild and Wonderful). This film was released as Teenage Pajama Party, Pajama Party, Sharon's Pajama Party and (amusingly) New Wave Pajama Party. For the record the three leading "teenagers," Sharon Mitchell, C. J. Laing and Terri Hall, were 21, 23 and 24 in 1977. This points up the peculiarity that despite the welt of late 1970s "teenage" movie titles, the average 1970s actress was a lot older than the average 21st century porn star. Adulthood was, as a cultural concept, somewhat older back then—The 26th Amendment lowering voting age from 21 to 18 was only ratified in 1971.

A group of sexy girls get together for a sleep-over. Dressed in revealing nightgowns the girls smoke pot, eat ice cream and and tell steamy stories of losing their virginity! A twisted obscene caller makes calls through the entire night...breathing heavily and turning the teens on in ways they didn't imagine!

Directed by Jim Clark. Starring Sharon Mitchell, C.J. Laing, Susaye London, Terri Hall, Pamela Grimes, Barbara James.

"A slice of sensual pie" from director Joe Sarno (as Eric Andersson). There is no lack of plot in this potboiler about college chums reuniting to discover the latest and unrealized passion that was always there. The film is a virtual who's who guide to some of the underappreciated but always erotic New York performers of the 70's.

"Annie Sprinkle plays an offbeat artist, Crystal Synk, (billed here as Christa Anderson) has a field day as a hedonist with a southern drawl and the scene with the salami is one you will never forget." (Sarno had a salami thing… one of his Swedish films has the same gimmick.)

Sonny Landham does his Elvis impression, and all of them become victims of Crystal's strange sexual orchestration control. Ultimately CJ & Hope resolve their problems with an assist from Annie. THis is one of those rare films that keeps piling people on people, scene after scene, and yet never loses the erotic edge. Plus bonus classic trailers & slideshow."

Starring Annie Sprinkle, CJ Laing, Crystal Sync, Hope Stockton, Ursula Austin, Sonny Landham, & Roger Caine.

Vixens of Kung Fu (DVD) AB262  1977

After a brutal attack, a young woman finds comfort in the arms of a skilled female kung fu trainer. After some sexy massage rehabilitation and lesbian exploration, she is ready to start her training to become a human killing machine. Of course, most of the training methods used involve being naked and more sex. Can she take revenge on her attackers using her new found knowledge of the deadly arts?

A cult film collector’s dream, Vixens is a straight faced XXX chop socky flick made in the heyday of Hong Kong imported martial arts films. Of course, Vixens was made in the USA, so it throws a few Asian names on the credits to give it a bit of authenticity, and then follows the often used “training for the big showdown” formula, but never forgets it’s a porno film. The straight lipped scenes of “powerful women” training while their naked titties jiggle up and down for our pleasure are priceless!

1977. 71m. Bree Anthony, CJ Laing, Jamie Gillis, Bobby Astyr.
